The goal of the master's degree is to provide training in research, innovation and development in the fields of Robotics, Graphics and Computer Vision and at their crossroads. The language of instruction is English. The curriculum allows the acquisition of a series of general and specific competences related to these topics, through a set of compulsory and optional subjects summarized here.

Robotics, autonomous vehicles, drones, computer vision, machine learning, graphic computing, virtual and augmented reality (AR / VR), and computational image are all disciplines in strong expansion and have an enormous socioeconomic potential, including applications of great economic and social interest, such as driving aid systems, or augmented reality systems for medicine. In the last decade there has been a continuous increase in the confluence between these sectors: autonomous vehicles need robotics and computer vision techniques to navigate, and are trained by automatic learning in virtual environments; AR / VR systems use robotics and computer vision techniques to learn the environment and estimate the user's position; computational imaging combines vision techniques and graphics computing to obtain and process images impossible to achieve with traditional methods, etc.

Currently the demand for professionals with advanced training in these areas, capable of researching and developing new techniques and products, is enormous and a very sustained increase is expected in the medium and long term.

For degrees marked (1), (1, 2), access to the program is possible if additionally there is sufficient evidence of: (1) 18 ECTS credits (or equivalent experience, for example in the final degree project) in computer programming, and (2) 18 ECTS credits (or equivalent experience) in mathematics.

  • For (2), please detail in the CV the courses / subjects followed. In the case of an equivalent experience, please provide a detailed description of this experience.

Access and admission requirements


Access to official University Master's courses at the University of Zaragoza is achieved by meeting certain of the following requirements:

a) Having an official Spanish university degree or another Spanish Master's Degree.

b) Having an official Spanish university degree obtained under curricula previous to the current organization of university education: Bachelor, Architect, Engineer, Diploma, Technical Architect or Technical Engineer.

c) Having a foreign tertiary education qualification analogous to an official Spanish university degree or declared equivalent to a Bachelor's or Master's Degree by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training.

d) Having a Bachelor's or Master's degree from universities or higher education institutions from a country in the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), which allows access to Master's studies in that country.

e) Having a foreign higher education qualification obtained from an education system outside the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) that is equivalent to the Bachelor's degree, without the need for approval or declaration of equivalence, and having obtained the corresponding resolution of "authorised access" to official University of Zaragoza Master's courses - following a check to ensure the level of training implied by this qualification - provided that the qualification allows access to postgraduate university studies in the country where it is issued.

f) Likewise, people who are studying an official university degree in the Spanish University System [SUE] in the 2021-2022 academic year may access the courses if they have all the registered credits necessary for completion of studies on their course and have a maximum of 9 ECTS and the Final Degree Project left to complete their studies.

Language requirements

If applying for admission to a Master's Degree taught in Spanish at the University of Zaragoza and your mother tongue is not Spanish, you must present documents attesting to sufficient knowledge of the Spanish language to follow the classes. An interview may be held to verify your Spanish language ability. When a check of specific Spanish language ability is required for the Master's degree requested, this level is assessed in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

In those University Master's degrees that are taught totally or partially in languages other than Spanish, applicants must provide documents accrediting the level of knowledge of the languages required in the verification report for the Master's course.

Assessment of applications

At each admission stage, people who meet the general access and specific admission requirements may be admitted to a Master's Degree in accordance with the assessment criteria established in the verification report for that Master's degree.

The Master's advisory committee or, where applicable, the organisation mentioned in the verification report will review the applications received based on the relevant assessment criteria, considering the documents provided by the applicants, and shall submit an admission proposal to the head of the corresponding centre.

Preference of applications

In each of the admission stages, preference is given to applicants who are in possession of the official qualification that gives them access to the Master's degree, so that in the admissions lists qualified graduates will appear ahead of those with graduate studies in the Spanish University System who still have to complete 9 ECTS and the Final Degree Project.

The profile of all graduates includes the following general characteristics:

  • They will be able to apply advanced and cutting-edge knowledge in the subjects of the master's degree that will enable them to be innovative in a context of research, development and innovation.
  • They will apply the knowledge acquired and their problem-solving skills in new or unfamiliar environments.
  • They will be able to design and develop new methods and algorithms applicable to the solution of problems in the subjects of the master's degree.
  • They will be able to study and assimilate technical and scientific documentation in English, as well as to communicate their research results to specialised and non-specialised audiences, in English, in a clear and unambiguous way.

Through the optional subjects, the curricular internships and the master's degree final project, students will be able to study one of the subjects of the master's degree in greater depth.

Qué se aprende

What do You learn?

This master's degree offers specialized training in the fields of robotics, computer vision and graphic computing, and in its research, development and innovation orientation. In this sense, this master complements the current offer in the macro area of ​​Engineering and Architecture. This offers, on the one hand, professional master's degrees with a generalist approach and with a more horizontal program, with which there are no coincidences in competencies and content with this master's degree. On the other, it offers specialized masters in subjects in which the University of Zaragoza has its own and differentiated knowledge, such as Biomedical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or Renewable Energies and Energy Efficiency. This master's degree is part of this second group.
Therefore, the profile of the students who graduated from this Master's degree, as well as the content and its deepening, are very different from the currently existing master's degrees: this proposal provides training in research, development, and innovation specialized in three very specific disciplines, the robotics, computer vision, and computer graphics, keys to many new professions at the forefront of technological development. Unlike other national and European master's degrees, this proposal has the decided vocation of exploiting the existing synergies between these three disciplines, thus distinguishing itself from other offers of research initiation master's degrees.

Detailed description of competences that will be acquired

The Master level is constituted in level 3 of the Spanish Framework of Qualifications for Higher Education (MECES), which includes those qualifications whose purpose is the acquisition by the student of advanced training, of a specialized or multidisciplinary nature, oriented to academic or professional specialization, or to promote initiation in research tasks. Therefore, the studies of the university Master's degree proposed in this report, which presents a professional and research orientation, will allow to achieve the Basic and General competencies listed below. The basic competencies are those established by Spanish legislation for the Master's level through Royal Decree 861/2010, of July 2, and the first seven general competencies cover the descriptors required for said level as established in Royal Decree 1027 / 2011, of July 15.


  1. Possess and understand knowledge that provides a basis or opportunity to be original in the development and / or application of ideas, often in a research context
  2. That students know how to apply the knowledge acquired and their ability to solve problems in new or unfamiliar environments within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to their area of ​​study
  3. That students are able to integrate knowledge and face the complexity of formulating judgments based on information that, being incomplete or limited, includes reflections on the social and ethical responsibilities linked to the application of their knowledge and judgments
  4. That students know how to communicate their conclusions and the knowledge and ultimate reasons that support them to specialized and non-specialized audiences in a clear and unambiguous way
  5. That students possess the learning skills that allow them to continue studying in a way that will be largely self-directed or autonomous.


Having acquired advanced knowledge and demonstrated, in a context of scientific and technological or highly specialized research, a detailed and well-founded understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects and of the work methodology in the fields of Robotics, Graphics and / or Computer Vision , that allow them to be innovative in a context of research, development and innovation.

  1. Ability to apply and integrate their knowledge, their understanding, their scientific foundation and their problem-solving skills in new and imprecisely defined environments, including multidisciplinary contexts for both researchers and highly specialized professionals.
  2. Ability to evaluate and select the appropriate scientific theory and the precise methodology of their fields of study to formulate judgments based on incomplete or limited information including, when necessary and pertinent, a reflection on social or ethical responsibility linked to the solution that is propose in each case.
  3. Ability to predict and control the evolution of complex situations through the development of new and innovative work methodologies adapted to the specific scientific / research, technological or professional field, generally multidisciplinary, in which they carry out their activity.
  4. Ability to transmit in English, orally and in writing, in a clear and unambiguous way, to a specialized audience or not, results from scientific and technological research or the most advanced field of innovation, as well as the most relevant fundamentals on which they are sustained.
  5. Having developed sufficient autonomy to participate in research projects and scientific or technological collaborations within their thematic scope, in interdisciplinary contexts and, where appropriate, with a high component of knowledge transfer.
  6. Ability to take responsibility for their own professional development and specialization in one or more fields of study.
  7. Possess the aptitudes, skills and method necessary to carry out multidisciplinary research and / or development work in the fields of Robotics, Graphics and / or Computer Vision.
  8. Ability to use the engineering techniques, skills and tools necessary for solving problems in the fields of Robotics, Graphics and / or Computer Vision.
  9. Ability to understand, relate to the state of the art and critically evaluate scientific publications in the fields of Robotics, Graphics and / or Computer Vision.
  10. Ability to manage and use bibliography, documentation, databases, software and hardware specific to the fields of Robotics, Graphics and / or Computer Vision.
  11. Ability to work in a multidisciplinary group and in a multilingual environment.


  1. Ability to apply mathematical and artificial intelligence methods to model, design and develop systems and applications of Robotics, Graphics and / or Computer Vision.

  4. Ability to conceive, design and develop software, products and systems in the field of Robotics.

  7. Ability to develop and evaluate software for Robotics, Graphics and Computer Vision problems, which can use general and / or specific purpose architectures.
  8. Ability to conceive, design and develop Machine Learning systems, and apply them to Robotics, Graphics and / or Computer Vision problems.
  9. Ability to autonomously develop a work of initiation to research and / or development in the field of Robotics, Graphics, or Computer Vision, in which the skills acquired in the degree are synthesized and integrated.
  10. Ability to understand the operation of the different computing devices.
  11. Ability to apply mathematical methods to model, design, develop and analyze performance-oriented computing systems.
  12. Ability to understand and apply programming models and specific-purpose languages ​​to robotics, graphics, or computer vision applications.
  13. Ability to apply high performance computer systems or numerical or computational methods to robotics, graphics and / or computer vision problems.
  14. Ability to apply high performance computing, optics and mathematical methods to model, design and develop computational imaging systems and applications.

General presentation of the study plan

The degree consists of 90 ECTS credits in total to be passed to obtain the Master's Degree in Robotics, Graphics and Computer Vision. Of these, the compulsory subjects account for 42 ECTS credits, 18 credits correspond to optional subjects, including external internships, and the remaining 30 ECTS credits correspond to the Master's Final Project.

Detailed study plan

Compulsory subjects: a group of 7 compulsory subjects of 6 ECTS credits is proposed that cover the following topics: Autonomous Robots; Multi-robot Systems; Machine Learning; Visual Perception and Understanding; 3D Computer Vision; Light Transport Algorithms; Computational Imaging; Programming and Architectures of different computing systems for Robotics, Computer Vision and Graphics; Applications Related to Robotics, Computer Vision and Graphics (Virtual and Augmented Reality, Autonomous Vehicles, Drones, ...). Optional subjects: a set of optional subjects of 3 ECTS credits is proposed, organized in 5 different subjects, each of which will have up to 9 ECTS credits. This organization makes it possible to dynamically offer emerging research or innovation topics, including different management and development activities of research and innovation tasks and projects and external practices in companies or research laboratories. The recognition in credits of the completion of external internships is limited to a maximum of 9 ECTS and may be done in differentiated segments of 3 ECTS. Final Master's Project. The objective of this work, equivalent to 30 ECTS credits, is to develop an introductory work on research or industrial innovation. The result is reflected in a memory in the form of an article or report, written in English, and its defense will consist of the presentation of said work in the same way that it is presented in congresses or forums specialized in the subjects of the master's degree. The TFM can be carried out at EINA, in a company associated with the Master's program, or in one of the universities with which mobility agreements have been established.

Academic orientation, information and support system for students

The course coordinator is the key figure for any query, clarification or problem that may arise during the academic year. The coordinator is in regular contact with the students and their representatives and provides support and set up the necessary actions to support the student’s learning process. In all degree courses, per the directives of the Academic Guidance Programmes at the University of Zaragoza, each student is assigned an individual lecturer-tutor, who will be responsible for offering the student academic advice on aspects related to the student’s integration and adaptation to the work expected to be completed in each degree. The academic tutor will also provide advice on the most suitable academic options as well as guidance on the student’s personal or professional academic interests, the resources and services available to them at the University and on the general workings of the University in its administrative and academic facets and for participation in its governing structures.

The University of Zaragoza has a University Centre for Modern Languages where international languages classes are offered. The language instruction offer includes German, Arabic, French, Modern Greek, English, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese and Japanese. The courses offered include: year-long General & Specific Courses, Intensive Summer Courses in July & September, and single-term Self-Study & Conversation Courses (English, French & German).

Summer courses. Students may also wish to participate in any of the summer course programmes on offer every year in July, August and September in various locations in Aragon, albeit most of them take place in the following locations: Teruel & Jaca.

The University of Zaragoza has its own Guidance and Employment Office: UNIVERSA. The main goal of this University Employment Observatory is to provide specific information, guidance and training to facilitate professional integration among university students, in addition to overseeing voluntary work placement for final year students. Courses are offered to both students and recent graduates to improve their training in professional skills, job seeking strategies, etc.

Furthermore, there is a Job Fair (EMPZAR) every year, which provides students with the possibility to contact directly with companies, as well as gain first-hand knowledge of the labour market demand, get advice on how to prepare a CV, and so on.

Libraries & study rooms. The University of Zaragoza has 4,803 reading seats across its libraries and study rooms. These are comprised of the main Library and a further 21 libraries in the various centres and faculties. They contain a total of over 1,000,000 books and approximately 33,500 different journals.

Library staff supports first-year students. Staff offers an online course on Information and ICT skills. This course is offered as a practical activity within one of the subjects imparted in year one.  The students are also offered other training courses on information skills, at various levels, chief among which are the Guide to Tools and Guidelines for preparing the undergraduate/master’s dissertation.

Counselling, accommodation and services

Halls of Residence. The University of Zaragoza has two main Halls of Residence located in the San Francisco Campus: The Pedro Cerbuna University Hall of Residence (CMU) (250 rooms) and the Santa Isabel CMU (192 rooms), plus another one located in the Río Ebro Campus (102 places) and two other halls in the cities of Huesca (Ramón Acin CMU – 125 rooms) and Teruel (Pablo Serrano CMU – 96 single rooms). There are also other university halls of residence in the city of Zaragoza run by private companies. Furthermore, there is a University web service that helps students to find a room or rent a flat. 

Accommodation can also be found using the Zaragoza Council programmes for young people and students.

Counselling. The University of Zaragoza has four free and anonymous counselling services for youngsters, which are run by a team of professionals who provide advice on academic, legal, sexual and psychological areas.

The University of Zaragoza international relations Office will provide international students with all the necessary support in the registration process. It also provides students with practical information about the city, transport, flats on offer, rooms, halls of residence, medical assistance, courses for international students, etc.

Student diversity. The main role of the University of Zaragoza Student Diversity Office (OUAD) (pertaining to the Vice-Chancellor for Students & Employment) is to ensure equal opportunities through inclusion of all university students in university academic life. In addition, it encourages awareness of student diversity within the university community. This office is particularly committed to providing attention to any university student with special educational needs or disabilities.

University information centre. The University Information & Appeals Centre offers general information about the University of Zaragoza: access, offer of undergraduate/master’s study programmes, doctoral programmes, as well as information on non-official degrees, registration process, grants, summer courses, administrative information, and so on. Equally, they manage appeals of any situations that are not subject to the established regulated procedures.

Information and Communications Service. All computers on campus are connected to the Internet. WiFi is available in all the buildings. Any student may use the University of Zaragoza IT services.

Vehicle management service. A permit is required so that a member of the university community can park their vehicles in the car parks available in the different campuses.

Sports and cultural activities

Cultural activities. The 'Cultural Agenda' provides a monthly programme of the events in the areas of Cinema & Animation, Music, Theatre, Exhibitions, Cycles, Conferences, Literary Activities and Courses. It also offers cultural association activities and those of the Cultural Committees in Zaragoza, Huesca and Teruel.

Sports activities. The University of Zaragoza sports complex is located in the San Francisco Campus and features a leisure centre, gym, outdoor basketball, handball and 5-a-side football facilities, a certified athletics track and a football pitch. Every academic year, over a hundred activities are organised.

Participation in university life

The University of Zaragoza Student House ('Casa del Estudiante') (inaugurated in 2005) is home to the University Student Council, the student groups represented on the Cloisters and Governing Board, and the multinational student associations. The Student House supervises activities pertaining to student representation and, additionally, work meetings, presentations, conferences and other events of interest to the students at our University. These activities are promoted and run by the student groups and coordinated by the Vice-Chancellor of Students: vrestu@unizar.es

Information Feelers. Voluntary student members of the University of Zaragoza faculties and centres act as 'information feelers' to counsel, inform and help their own peers. 

University Ombudsman. This person defends the rights and freedoms of the university community and attends to complaints and requests from students.

This master's degree is taught by the Department of Informatics and Systems Engineering of the UZ, in collaboration with researchers from three prominent research groups:

  • the Robotics, Perception and Real Time Group,
  • the Graphics and Imaging Lab, and
  • the Computer Architecture Group.

All three are part of the Aragon Engineering Research Institute (I3A).

Academic staff have been awarded such distinctions as the European Research Consolidator Grants, Google Faculty Research awards, Eurographics research fellowships, IEEE Robotics and Automation Society Fellowships, NVIDIA Graduate Fellowships, Adobe Research Fellowships, Eurographics PhD awards.
